Eco Scuba Diving in Indonesia - Kima Bajo, Manado

Here's a great promotional video for Kima Bajo Resorts, just outside Manado in Indonesia. The whole environment looks very luxurious and is well presented. The only thing odd is that given it's emphasis on eco diving and scuba diving around stunning North Sulawesi, there's surprisingly little actual underwater footage, mostly towards the end. But what there is features fantastic reefs, corals, colorful seahorses and beautiful schools of fish. Certainly a great all around holiday vacation and would be a trip of a lifetime!

scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef - turtle & octopus

Here's a really well-shot video while scuba diving the Great Barrier Reef in Australia. The two animals hogging up all the screen time are a large turtle and an octopus, which are two underwater creatures I'd watch all the time. The camerawork and colors are really crisp, bright and true, and capture some of the reef, corals and schooling fish nicely as well.

beautiful video of the Great Barrier Reef - with warnings

Here's a short video describing the immense Great Barrier Reef in Australia, including fantastic aerial views of the reef and some of the islands, and beautifully-shot underwater clips of the corals, reefs and animal life while scuba diving. Of course, there's the required (and true) warning about the impact that global warming and climate change is having on the reef, notably the bleaching of the corals due to rising water temperature. I've become rather cynical as almost all nature/animal videos now have a requisite dire warning - but if you can get past that, this is a remarkably gorgeous video...

scuba diving in the Mexican Riviera - Playa del Carmen

Here's a scuba diving video from the Mexican destination dive site of Playa del Carmen, along the Mayan Riviera in the Quintana Roo region of Mexico. This video takes a couple minutes to get started, then has all the usual suspects like turtles, barracuda and wreck diving. I really wanted to like this video, as visiting Mexico and diving along the northern part of the Caribbean is an attraction to us. But unfortunately, the reef and fish life don't look as spectacular here as we've see in Belize, for example. That said, it still looks like enough adventure for a short dive excursion as part of an overall trip to Mexico - just not enough for a scuba vacation on its own...

5 minutes of whale sharks in the Galapagos Islands

Whale sharks, whale sharks and more whale sharks! This video is crammed with 5 minutes of the largest fish on the planet, found in great quantities in the Galapagos Islands off the coast of mainland Ecuador in South America. I never, ever get tired of watching these creatures, and always bring back memories of our own scuba trip to the Galapagos.
